A successful medical professional decided he wanted to surprise his wife by completing renovations on their dated, dark and dreary mid-century modern home while she was working abroad for about a year or so. It was a monumental project, so he sought my help getting it all done on such a tight timeline.
The couple tremendously enjoyed cooking for friends and family, but it wasn’t easy to prepare a feast in their small 1970’s kitchen. On top of that, it was closed off from the living space (making it impossible to interact with guests while working on the meal.)
The kitchen wasn’t the only problem area. The rooms of the house were “chopped up.” The closet spaces and hallways were tight. They had to walk down the hallway and through a door to access the bedrooms. The master bedroom had barely enough room for a king bed. The master bathroom was also still trapped in the 1970’s.
The home wasn’t functional for the family. The space just didn’t flow.
The customer had some ideas and photos of elements he was drawn to, but he wasn’t entirely sure how to tie them all together. I listened to his needs and wants then pulled all his photos and ideas together to design a concept. I worked with my customer, fine-tuning the plans until they matched the customers budget and vision.
Now, the family enjoys the updated kitchen and pantry, as well as the well-designed open living space needed to cook and entertain the way they love to. We combined the old master bedroom and one smaller bedroom to create a beautiful, spacious master suite complete with a sitting room. I installed a heated floor in the master bathroom, along with gorgeous new tile in the shower and on the floor, and modern floating vanities. New doors and trim were installed throughout the home.
I was able to help transform their home from the drab, dreary relic it was into an updated, comfortable, modern home they are proud to host guests in.
A young teacher with a growing family had significant kitchen problems. She only had about three feet of countertop space which made dinner prep frustrating. Even worse, because the kitchen was closed off from the rest of the house, it was impossible to prepare meals for the family while also keeping an eye on the kids.
To save money, the family attempted a DIY remodel. Unfortunately, this ended in a pile of problems.
When they called me in for help, I assessed their problems and needs then presented various options. We worked together to find solutions that were within their budget, and I set to work executing the plans.
Now this growing family has plenty of safe space in which to work and play! Electrical dangers were remedied. The dog food and trash are neatly contained within their new custom cabinets. Even after the necessary structural changes were made to support the roof, they were still able to benefit from their new open concept kitchen and living area.
I was able to correct their DIY errors and create the safe and functional space their growing family needs.
A very busy couple (a teacher and a state champion football coach) lived in a beautiful home with their equally busy children. Although their home was spacious, it lacked master closet space, and storage space in general. Their closets were so stuffed that they couldn’t even squeeze in one more empty hanger. They simply couldn’t fit all their clothes in. They had some of their things stored in totes which were a constant trip hazard.
I came in to see what solutions I could offer within their budget. While the master closet was small, the bedroom was huge—there was so much wasted space. There was no overhead light, causing it to seem dreary and making it hard to see and read. I came up with a concept to solve their storage woes and brighten up the room.
I designed and installed a floor-to-ceiling wardrobe with pull-out drawers and adjustable shelving. I hired an electrician to install four overhead recessed lights.
Now the family enjoys ample storage space for hanging their clothes and storing their things safely and out of sight, and their new lighting is both beautiful and functional.
No more dreary trip-hazard room!
